Following the recent injury of pedestrians from concrete falling from a 12-storey building onto one of New Zealand’s busiest retail streets, we consider the likely causes of this incident and similar facade defects, and how the risks presented by facades can be better managed through a proactive approach to facade condition assessment and maintenance.
